Finpage is an entry in the 2013 UXDA (User Experience Design Award), which is held by industry association: UXPA China (User Experience Professional Association). It got an Excellence Award finally. Four members in the team in charge of visual design, user research, interaction design and front-end technology respectively.

Finpage is an iPhone APP that can help people to improve their occupational skills. It supposes users could find their dream job in the future after using the APP. Finpage focuses on IT industry only, and the main customers of Finpage are college students who want to work in the IT industry in the future.

Finpage provides five kinds of resources for users: recruitment information, industry information, professional building, experience introduction and overall quality.

Users can use “Add to favourite” to collect the article they like; Use “My growth index” to view study progress, and Finpage also has encouragement mechanism for each positive user.

If a customer’s “Growth index” value reach 80%, Finpage will open the green channel for him. Green Channel contains some famous companies’ training and internal recommendation projects.

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

1/ Early stage: requirement gathering and user research

In the requirements gathering phase, we focused on the questions setting of questionnaires and interview outlines. We use the information we get from questionnaires and interviews to do user research: summarize the major problems of our potential customers and make sure what Finpage needs to do.

1.1 / We start from questionnaire survey and interview.

We interview recruiters and applicants of IT industry. From the interview of recruiters, we get the recruitment requirements for the employees they want to hire. From the interview of applicants, we get the job-finding problems they face in the daily professional study.

1.2 / From analysis of the questionnaires and interview, we divide our potential customers into three groups by their occupational skills level: top (the people who have higher educational background and practical skills), medium and weak (the people who have lower educational background and less practical skills).

1.3 / Convert requirements into functions:

We get lots of design opportunities by analysing the results of questionnaires and interview, and we rank the design opportunities according to priority and choose the opportunities we can make it at this developing phase.

2 / Middle stage: information architecture, flow diagram and prototype design

2.1 / At the beginning of middle stage, we discuss the information architecture of Finpage.

2.2/ Flow diagram: the basic using process of Finpage.

2.3 / At the same time, we also consider the business operation pattern. Finpage will cooperate with some IT companies, recruiting websites as well as headhunting companies.

2.4 / Prototyping: We output interactive process in 10 different scenarios and define page-switching logics between each using scenario.

3 / Late stage: visual design and definition of intrinsic mechanism

In the last stage, we focus on interface design and specific definition of intrinsic mechanism. We define 13 kinds of intrinsic mechanisms, such as articles push mechanism (the number of push articles in one day and the linkage between the push articles), the open mechanism of “green channel” and the mechanism of “my growth index”. We output 50 UI pages for Finpage.
